The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) welcomes its new Administrator, Undersecretary Reynaldo B. Mapagu who took his oath of office before Senior Undersecretary Jose C. Faustino Jr., on 01 August 2022.

Prior to his appointment as the PVAO Administrator, Undersecretary Mapagu was the DND Undersecretary for Civil, Veteran and Reserve Affairs from 27 September 2017 to 30 June 2022, during the term of the former Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana.

He was also the principal executive who advised and assisted the Secretary of National Defense in formulating and implementing objectives and policies on civil, veterans, retiree and public affairs, and AFP Reserve Force Development. In executing these functions, he has functional supervision over the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), the AFP Pension and Gratuity Management Center (AFPPGMC), the PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority (PIA), and the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP).

Undersecretary Mapagu also headed the Task Force Balik-Loob, an inter-agency Task Force created to supervise the implementation of the government’s reintegration efforts through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, or E-CLIP. In addition, USec. Mapagu was designated as Co-Champion in the implementation of the DND-DPWH Convergence Program for Strengthening and Expanding Military Facility Readiness for National Security and Development or the “Tatag ng Imprastraktura para sa Kapayapaan at Seguridad” or the TIKAS Program.

The new PVAO Administrator is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Makatarungan” Class of 1978. A distinguished military officer, he served the Philippine Army and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in both field and staff duties for more than 38 years until his compulsory retirement in October 2012. To name a few of his notable positions, he was the Vice Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines; the 52nd Commanding General of the Philippine Army; the Commander of the 10th Infantry Division, Philippine Army which covered the whole of Davao Region, Davao de Oro and some areas of North Cotabato and Region 12; and the Regiment Commander of the First Scout Ranger Regiment, Special Operations Command, Philippine Army.

Undersecretary Mapagu succeeds Undersecretary Ernesto G. Carolina as the Administrator of PVAO, who held the office for twelve (12) years.
