The Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana led the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Veterans Center Region 8 Building and Museum of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP) held at Candahug, Palo, Leyte on 12 May 2022.
Secretary Lorenzana congratulated the VFP, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Provincial Government of Leyte for making the construction of the VFP Veterans Center Region 8 Building and Museum possible. He also thanked the Filipino Veterans Community for their unwavering support to him as the Secretary of National Defense. He also assured them that he will continue to champion the cause of the Filipino veterans and soldiers even in his private capacity.
Philippine Veterans Affairs Office Administrator, Usec. Ernesto G. Carolina, VFP Executive Vice President, MGen Reomeo D. Alamillo AFP (Ret), Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla, Representative Yedda Marie K. Romualdez, Palo Mayor Frances Ann B. Petilla, and Engineer Mark Anthony M. Alejo, District Engineer of the 1st Leyte Engineering District also joined the groundbreaking ceremony.
The VFP is a government corporation created through RA 2640 to promote the interests of Filipino veterans who served the country during armed conflicts or retired from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The VFP Veterans Center Region 8 will house the Regional Assistance Center 8 of the VFP where Filipino veterans can convene and seek assistance on veterans’ welfare and affairs. The Veterans Center in Leyte is among the first centers that the VFP will build nationwide to be able to deliver various services to Filipino veterans, and foster love of country among the citizenry by perpetuating the heroic deeds and acts of patriotism of our veterans.
