Nieves Baens del Rosario was born in Orani, Bataan on 1902. Nieves graduated from Orani Elementary School as Valedictorian and Bataan High School as Salutatorian. She was a successful defense lawyer, civic leader, labor leader, and director of the Kawanihan ng Bigay Pala ng Manggagawa.
Nieves was one of the first women lawyers in the Philippines. She helped drafted many labor laws and was instrumental in the enactment of the Women and Child Labor Law.
Due to her excellence in writing; Nieves received several awards including a Commonwealth Literary Award on 1940 for her short stories. She also got an Award of Merit for her poems in tagalog accorded to her by the National Federation of Women’s Club on 1950. And an Award Merit from the Surian ng Wikang Pambansa a or her essay entitled ‘Si Valeriano Hernass Peña at ang kanyang Nena at Neneng” (Valeriano Hernandez Peña and His Nena at Neneng).
