President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the national observance of the 159th Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio held at the Andres Bonifacio National Monument in Caloocan on 30 November 2022.

The solemn celebration began with a flag-raising and a wreath-laying ceremony led by the President. He was joined by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairman Dr. Rene R. Escalante, and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Bartolome Bacarro AFP.

In his remarks, President Marcos underscored how the memories of our heroes guide us as we band together and work for a better future for the country. He then encouraged the public to persistently honor Bonifacio and all the Filipino heroes, known and unknown alike, who sacrificed their lives to ensure the freedom and identity of the nation.

“Bilang mga tagapagmana ng kalayaang kanilang ipinaglaban, tungkulin natin bilang mga Pilipino na panatilihing buhay ang diwa ng kanilang mga layunin at siguruhing mapayapa, malaya, at masagana ang ating sambayanan,” President Marcos said.

He also gave recognition to our modern heroes and the countless “Juan” and “Juanas” who have proven that each of us has the innate ability to do good for our society and community.

“Sama-sama nating harapin ang mga hamon ng panahon ngayon na may pagmamahal sa bayan, determinasyon, tapang, karangalan upang maitaguyod natin ang isang Pilipinas na tunay na nais nating ipagmalaki,” he added.

The event was also attended by Senator Robin Padilla, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Caloocan City District 1 Representative Oscar G. Malapitan, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, and Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval. Members of the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office led by Undersecretary Reynaldo B. Mapagu, along with other national government officials, representatives of foreign dignitaries, and the people of Caloocan city also joined the celebration.
